This course provides a review of the anatomical, physiological and biomechanical changes that occur during the three phases of pregnancy as well as post pregnancy. It also examines the implications for safe and effective exercise programming and prescription.
The course includes:
- Possible risks associated with exercise during pregnancy for both the pregnant female and the growing foetus
- Aims and benefits associated with exercise during pregnancy
- Contraindications to exercise during pregnancy
- Exercises that should be avoided for the general pregnant female specifically at certain stages of pregnancy
- Exercise prescription for maintenance and development of strength, flexibility and endurance
- Importance of referrals
